  • Montgeard was a walled village founded in 1317, in the forest of Nailloux, by the King of France Philippe V (The Long). By this act he asserted his authority in the Lauragais hills, the cradle of Catharism and the hostility of the catholic church. Today, Montgeard is a charming, little village on a hill. Montgeard’s moment of glory was during the XVIth century. In those days, the people living in Montgeard turned in a flash from being simple land owners to becoming rich merchants, thanks to the cultivation of the pastel plant, which can be nick-named “Blue gold”. Discover the magnificent church and “chateau” (a splendid private mansion), partially financed by the pastel merchants of the village.
