  • The antique city of Lugdunum is more than 2000 years old... the Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges site is something to discover by seeing the various monuments coming from various historical periods.

The Chapelle des Olivetains, in the upper village of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to a sculpted monument made up of several figures: the Augustin trophy. Set up in the 1st Century, this unique monument commemorates the definitive "pacification" of the Pyrenees Mountains.

The antique city of Lugdunum is more than 2000 years old. It is believed to have been founded in the year 72 BC and archaeological research undertaken over the past century at the site has found traces of occupation from 30 BC. One generation later the Roman urban developers created the town which the digs have uncovered (temple, spa, market, theatre…) It was inhabited by 5,000 to 10,000 people at the time of its largest extension (75 acres).
