The “Tourisme et Handicap” brand is a response to the needs of people who have some type of disability and who wish to be able to choose their holidays and leisure activities without constraints.

Created in 2001 by the Ministry of Tourism, the brand carries the guarantee that people with a disability will be taken care of in the establishment concerned with due regard paid to the needs engendered by their disability. The documents used for the evaluation which precedes the awarding of the brand have been established in concertation between the associations of tourist service providers and the  representatives of people with a disability.

The logo, displayed at the entrance to visitor attractions, establishments and tourist facilities and on all documents, gives reliable, consistent and objective information about accessibility according to type of disability (hearing, mental, motor, visual) thanks to four pictogrammes and constitutes proof of real commitment. A place may be awarded the brand for two, three or four types of disability.

The Tourism and Handicap brand encourages the development of tourism-related products and services which are truly open to all, and guarantees that tourists with a disability have access to the information that gives them the maximum degree of autonomy.

The list of professional service providers who can apply for the brand is particularly long. It includes : all types of accommodation (hotels, holiday villages, holiday homes for families, B & B establishments, youth hostels, tourist residences, furnished holiday lets, campsites, …), meal providers (restaurants, bars, brasseries, farm inns, crêperies…), tourist attractions (monuments, museums, exhibition rooms, castles, remarkable sites, gardens) and all types of leisure facilities (theme parks, entertainment venues, recreational facilities, swimming pools and spa facilities, leisure centres…).
